June 2023 Newsletter

Come and see us at the National Fieldays®, June 14th to 17th at Mystery Creek. We will be on our usual site D24 near the South Gate

We will display a range of electric machines including the New Zealand debut of our fully electric excavator the XE35U-E and the XC918EV fully electric wheel loader.

Fonterra (F69) and Phoenix (E90) will also exhibit their E700s.

Our first fully electric concrete mixer truck is now in New Zealand.

Our E400s now have the tipper bodies fitted at the factory.

XCMG remains the third largest construction machinery manufacturer in the world.

Our first visit to XCMG factories with clients since Covid hit included a visit to the mining equipment base.

We also visited the truck assembly line to see the latest rubber suspension system from Hendrickson. This system saves around 260kg compared to leaf springs.

E700s to be built as concrete mixer trucks on the line.

Electric motors and AMTs ready for installation.

Currently XCMGs most impressive battery electric machine, the 37t GR350EP. Bigger than a Cat 18M3 with a 525kWh battery for 5 to 6 hour run time.

It is XCMG’s customer festival this week in Xuzhou to display the latest technology. As part of that festival we can offer discounts on any confirmed new build orders placed until the end of May. If you are considering new XCMG equipment, its a good time to place that order.

The New Zealand launch of the XE35U-E electric excavators will be at the Fieldays, June 14-17 at Mystery Creek. Come and see us at site D24.

Our E700 8×4 cab chassis and 6×4 tractor remain the number one selling heavy electric trucks in China for the first quarter of 2023.

I also drove XCMG’s hydrogen FCEV trucks. The 6×4 tractor has 10 x 210l tanks with the hydrogen stored at 350bar. Very similar to an electric truck to drive, except the regeneration braking effect is much less.
A short video moving off in the hydrogen FCEV tipper is here:

XCMG now have two versions of the battery swap capable, autonomous dump trucks. One swaps the battery from above, the other from the side.

This remote control 38 tonne excavator was ready to ship to a steel mill where it will work in temperatures reaching 85C. Apart from the 5G aerial, a few cameras and radar pads it looked much like any other excavator. Full autonomy in excavators will be achieved this year.

Some 21t and 27t electric excavators ready to ship to Brazil.

XCMG’s battery electric, dual drum, 4.5t roller is now in testing. The machine has electric drive motors and Danfoss hydraulics

XCMG also have a 500mm cut BEV road mill in testing. The 7500kg unit has a remarkable 8 hour run time on the 192kWh CATL battery

A glimpse into the future with XCMG’s XDR80TE-AT. There is no cabin, these are for autonomous operation only. I saw the prototype at the factory a couple of months ago but wasn’t allowed to photograph it. The 80t capacity truck features battery swapping capability for continuous use.

The video is here with a glimpse of the battery swap system at 2.20

These 240t diesel dump trucks have been running autonomously for a couple of years in Mongolia. There are 31 of them in the fleet, the clear advantages are safety and productivity.

Our first battery swap concrete mixer is ready to ship. This one has the latest CATL battery that is 300kg lighter and can now accept dual gun charging (under an 1 hour to 100%) where battery swapping is not available.

Two robotic battery swap stations now open to the public for trucks on the Chengdu to Chongqing highway.

XCMG continues to dominate heavy electric truck sales in China with 19% market share for the first quarter of 2023.

Our E400 tippers will now have the ability to charge EV equipment left on construction sites like the XE35U-E excavator.

The most “out there” offering from the other manufacturers was this autonomous electric concept loader from Volvo. The design inspiration came from a children’s Lego competition.

Back in New Zealand the Ghella Abergeldie JV E700 tippers are now out working on Watercare’s Central Interceptor project.

The first two XC918EV loaders have arrived in New Zealand. After viewing all the competitors electric loaders at Con-Expo it was pleasing to see how far ahead of the pack XCMG remain.

February 2023 Newsletter

Last week I made my first trip back to China and XCMG after a three year break due to the Covid pandemic. Innovation and growth have continued at XCMG unabated.

The green ones are heavy duty with 70t GVM for steel mills etc.

This is the first E400 and has been built in RHD for New Zealand. It features an integrated single speed drive axle and 127kWh battery for over 200km duration.

The battery swap station for New Zealand is nearly completed. It is completely robotic and designed to work unmanned. Swap time will be around 5 minutes.

I test drove the prototype 12t XC938EV loader which has a 180kWh battery for 5 to 8 hours run time. This render shows the final design for New Zealand.

The diesel electric XC9150 was also at the test ground. The loader is rated at 15 tonne lift and has joystick steering. It is driven by four hub motors

This inward goods bay at the loader factory used to hold diesel engines. Now a good proportion stores CATL lithium batteries.

XCMGs electric excavators are now available with either fixed or swapable batteries. The swap system allows the excavators to be used more or less continuously and in remote locations, perhaps even in forestry.

The battery electric XE60E has just been released for testing

Tethered electric excavators are available in various sizes, seen here at 60 tonne.

The electric port equipment was on display. Both the reach stacker and empty container handler will soon have swapable batteries for continuous use.

They reach stackers can be fitted with this rotating head to allow rapid emptying of 20 foot open top containers

A video of the rotator unloading a container is here:

The XCMG fully electric ECH now has battery swapping capability. This unit in Qingdao offers 3-4 hours hard work per battery with each battery swap taking around 6 minutes.

After several shipping delays the first two XC918EV’s should be in New Zealand by the end of February.

A bit of a professional challenge for Loadrite fitting perhaps the first ever scales to an EV loader. All solved now and the XC968EV is weighing accurately.

XCMG have launched two more tethered electric material handlers with rising cabins, the XE230EM and the XE500EM. We have pricing available for NZ compliant models.

Shantui have released their fully electric 26t dozer the DE26X2, now in testing in China
